THE STORY OF THE BABY PUGGLES

This is a BABY PUGGLE, and as you can see, like human babies they wear nappies (or diapers), but only for three weeks. What a pity human babies aren’t the same!

They develop their first and only set of teeth by the time they are 6 months old, and will bite on just about anything that enters their mouths . . . so be careful!

BABY PUGGLES can be carried quite safely in a human’s pocket, and they do like to be held in the palms of hands because it’s warm there. PUGGLE parents often put their BABY PUGGLES into cloth bags and hang them up in the tree branches while they get on with their work. This is just as well, because BABY PUGGLES are very inquisitive and will always wander off to explore if left unattended.

If you think a BABY PUGGLE is over three weeks old, then you can remove its nappy safe in the knowledge that there will not be any “little accidents”. But . . . if you miscalculate . . . watch out!

THE STORY OF THE PUGGLES

Once upon a time there were four million, three thousand, two hundred and one . . . PUGGLES. But now there are only

a few bagsful left, just like this one. PUGGLES lived in the Australian bush under the ground in tunnels.

They came out of their holes at night to feed on their favourite tucker . . . split peas! All night long they would PUGGLE up every pea they could find, and as daylight approached, it would “dawn” on them that they had to get back home. Waiting for them at their front doors would be the local people, which is why they were called “early settlers”. Of course the PUGGLES had stuffed themselves so full of split peas that they couldn’t get down their holes and became stuck with their bottoms at the top, making them easy prey for the people who just loved PUGGLE Pie.

So that is why, last thing at night, you must tuck your PUGGLE into this bag, tie it up tightly, and don’t let it out until morning. This way PUGGLES will not become extinct and maybe, one day, there will be as many PUGGLES as before . . .

Now wouldn’t that be an eye-PUGGLING sight!

The word PUGGLE means:

Peace, Understanding, Gentleness, Generosity, Love and Energy.

Wherever PUGGLES go, they always leave behind one of these qualities.

So spread the word . . . and the word is PUGGLE.
